The Non-Liquid Part of Mid-Summer
It's Juhannus again – the Finnish mid-summer party when sun won't go down at all but copious amounts of alcohol will. Give your yearly, cheery mid-summer vote: how many people are going to drown while doing their thing while standing up in a boat in the middle of a lake? Hmmm.
Me, me luv and a friend from the neighbour are responsible for the meat side of things, and right now I'm waiting for the rum marinade with the pork ribs in it to cool down enough to be put in the fridge. The other varieties include chicken breast fillets, beef sirloin, lamb (marinated, but not the anonymous supermarket kind) and – ta daa – sausages; the normal Finnish floury kind and some bratwurst. We also have some sauces to go along with the meat; feta cheese–rosé pepper paste (thanks for the recipe JV!) and some standard red wine sauce from lamb bones.
We'll have to feed 9 people but the others are responsible for bringing the breakfast, lunch and the vegetables. I think we'll survive!
